Our Minnesota home includes three humans (Jim, Jan and Sean Chapman), and our five Rottweilers. We strive for health, longevity, and good temperaments – dogs that are great family companions with a strong desire to work. If you don’t want a dog with a strong personality, then our dogs are not for you. Since the Rottweiler is very sociable and a working breed, our puppies must go to homes where they are loved, trained and actively a part of their family their whole lives.
We are code of ethics breeders and members of the American Rottweiler Club, Medallion Rottweiler Club, United States Rottweiler Club, Midwest Working Rottweiler Association, United Schutzhund Club of America, Pals on Paws, Therapy Dogs International, and Northstar Rottweiler Club. Jan is currently the vice president of the Northstar Rottweiler Club.
We didn’t always have Rottweilers since while growing up they were rarely seen or even heard about. Jim and Jan both grew up with German Shepherd dogs and will always have a soft spot for them. Jim’s family also raised Siberian Huskies, another one of our favorites. We have also co-owned a wonderful Afghan Hound named Henri. Several years ago, just by chance, Jim had a friend with a Rottweiler bitch, and was so impressed by her that he was determined to convince Jan to get a Rottweiler. After meeting one, how could I say no? Finally, in our first home in southwest Minneapolis, we got our Rottweiler, Max. Our lives have never been the same.
We were fortunate to get our first dog, Max, from Theresa Traut of Goldwinds kennel. She and Lisa Myers had bred their bitch, Goldwinds Lil Tanker v. Myers to a German import, American/Canadian Ch. Pico Vom Hegestrauch, BH, SchH I. Prico was imported by Diana Lane of Von Boylan kennel. Our Max had such great working ability, eventually he was owner-handled to an ARC Versatility title. Max and his littermates helped Prico become an ARC Gold Sire, this was indeed a great match. From all this, we became good friends with these breeders. We will always be grateful to Theresa and especially Diana for their advice and expert knowledge with Rottweilers, getting us on the right track early on. We have done our best to include the many breeders that are behind our dogs in our web site's pedigrees because without them, we wouldn't have our wonderful Rottweilers. We will always be grateful for their efforts and dedication to the breed.
Now our son, Sean, is in the beginning stages of learning to train dogs. After all, it is us humans that must be trained! This spring Sean handled his first dog in Canada, a Dachshund named Dory, in the Peewee Juniors conformation class (see his photos in the Gallery - Sean's Gallery!). Since then he has been “bitten” by the show bug. He is determined to show our girl, Adda, as soon as he is old enough. Sean loves puppy sitting and helps us to socialize our puppies from the moment they are born. Someday, he hopes to participate in agility with a dog, after he gets done playing on the obstacles himself.
In addition to conformation, our family participates in obedience, therapy visits, tracking, herding, agility, Schutzhund and German-style Sieger shows. The dogs are happiest when active, and we are thrilled with their versatility and intelligence since they will do whatever is asked of them. The fun is in finding which activity each dog likes best!
We would like to extend a special thank you to Chris Peddicord, for helping us to setup our website. And, to his lovely wife, Chalase, for putting up with us when she was busy with their new baby, Ellen. We are delighted to have found some new, good friends! We highly recommend them both including their web site, photography, and pet training talents. Please visit their web site shown at the bottom of this page. We are very glad that you all decided to move here -- Welcome to Minnesota!
